Google has come out with a new algorithm that may change the game of search results. If you want your site or page to be shown in rankings while being searched for anything particular, make sure your content is full proof and original. Authentic, well-researched content is what Google is aiming at.
Though not a core update, Google is calling this new algorithm a Google product reviews update. This update particularly targets product reviews. The remaining search results remain untouched. This came into force keeping in mind the wants of the netizens and what they are looking for. Content satiating the contentment of the searchers will be rewarded by Google via the new algorithm. For the time being, the update is only targeting English language content, in spite of being globally launched.
“Google Search is always working to show the most useful and helpful information possible, through testing, experimenting and review processes. From this, we know people appreciate product reviews that share in-depth research, rather than thin content that simply summarizes a bunch of products. That’s why we’re sharing an improvement to our ranking systems, which we call the product reviews update, that’s designed to better reward such content”, quoted Google.
Google also mentioned a new guideline that does not favor phone numbers in google posts anymore. This step was taken keeping in mind the increasing cyber or online abuse. The businesses can still include their official phone numbers on their Business profiles or websites. They can also use the “Call now” button on their posts.
Sites that are not related to publishing product reviews need not worry as the update will not affect them in any way.
Site owners may already have noticed ups and downs in traffic. They must have also seen a fluctuation in the rankings. Therefore, site owners who publish product reviews should monitor their traffic and upload content carefully as it will decide the site’s ranking.
Even if there has been no noticeable change, site owners are expected to add an annotation to Google Analytics and other monitoring tools that they might be using to indicate the product reviews update after the latest update went live.
Google recently also announced new improvements for its Search Console performance reports.
