The Season 1 of sitcom-flavoured WandaVision came to its end after nine episodes last Friday. What started as a fun sitcom about the two Avengers living together in a friendly neighbourhood soon turned out to be a poignant love story about grief and loss. Amidst a superhero showdown replete with special effects galore, the show finale tied up many loose threads, but also left many hanging.
After much back and forth in dialogue between Wanda and Agatha Harkness, we finally see the Sokovian transform into the powerful and magnificent Scarlet Witch – who we know will be joining the Sorcerer Supreme in the next Dr. Strange movie, Multiverse of Madness. Vision and their two children go back to non-existence – as they were before Wanda created them out of her chaos magic in the burden of her grief. White Vision – after gaining all the memories of the real Vision (basically the events of all MCU movies) – flies off into the air and disappears. Agatha Harkness is left forever stuck in Westview, playing the role of the nosy neighbor. Monica Rambeau receives an invite to go to space, where she will be seen again the next Captain Marvel movie.
So is there going to be a WandaVision Season Two?
The Marvel bosses played it smart by naming the Episode 9 of WandaVision as ‘Series Finale’. They want us to believe that this is the end of the story for Wanda and Vision and their little family. But like Vision himself said before bidding goodbye, “I have been a voice with no body, a body but not human, and now, a memory made real. Who knows what I might be next?”
Thus, basically saying that there is always the possibility of a return with a new twist! Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige however chose to be cryptic by saying, “I’ve been at Marvel too long to say a definite no or yes to anything.” He later added that season two will be “dictated by the story.”
What we know for sure is that the story of Wanda will continue in the movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She might pay a visit to the Sorcerer Supreme seeking help to understand her new powers, or to find out a way to answer the call of her children (as seen in the end credits). Whatever happens in the course of this movie will ultimately decide the fate of Season Two for WandaVision.
When will Season Two be out?
Currently, Elizabeth Olsen is shooting in London for the installment of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The movie is expected to be released in March, 2022. So at the earliest, a Season Two for WandaVision will not be released before 2023.
Till then, fans can continue to come up with their various theories and possible plot points!
